Samsung washing machine does not drain water

Quite often, machines freeze during the washing process with a full tank of water, unable to drain it into the sewer. There may be several reasons, from a clogged drain hose to a broken control module. Without the strength and desire, it is better to entrust the repair to an expert. If you do not want to overpay, you can try to fix the problem yourself. Let us figure out what to do if the Samsung washing machine does not drain water, where to start diagnostics, and how, if necessary, replace the elements of the washing machine.

Trivial situations

Having decided to deal with the problem yourself, you need to make sure that there really is a breakdown. In some cases, it happens that a full drum of water does not indicate a problem at all. We are talking about the following situations:

• Some modes on Samsung washing machines allow you to stop washing with a full tank. For example, this can be observed when choosing the “Wool” or “Silk” program. Before sounding the alarm, check whether one of the delicate modes has been selected,
• bend of the drain hose. You should check the drain hose to see if it is squashed. If yes, then dealing with the problem is simple - straighten the tube,
• garbage filter clogged. The function of the filter element is to trap debris and prevent it from entering the drain pump. When clogged, the filter does not allow water to pass through to the drain. What to do in this case? It is necessary to unscrew the garbage filter (it is located on the front wall of the SMA, in the lower corner, behind a special door or panel) and wash its surface,
• clogged sewer pipe or siphon. It happens that the problem is not in the washing machine at all, but in the house communications. It is easy to check your guess - disconnect the drain hose from the sewer or siphon and point the end of the tube into the bathtub. Then start the wash, wait for the draining stage. If water begins to flow out of the system unhindered, it means that the pipe or siphon is indeed clogged. You can clean the elements yourself or call a plumber.

In some situations, we are talking specifically about the failure of a specific element. Often (in about 90% of cases) the reason for the inability to remove wastewater from the SMA tank is a breakdown of the drain pump. If the pump burns out, pumping out liquid will not begin. Only dismantling and replacing the pump will help.

The problem could also be clogged pipes. Their cavity is clogged with ordinary garbage or low-quality laundry detergent. Only a specialist can clean clogged pipes because this requires completely disassembling the machine.

If the control unit of the automatic machine malfunctions, it does not transmit the command to the drain pump to pump liquid out of the tank. In this case, it is better to entrust the repair to professionals, since it is not worth getting into the “brain” of the washing machine without experience working with electronics; it can only aggravate the situation.

The Samsung washing machine, having detected a malfunction in the system, will notify you of the damage by issuing the corresponding error code. The electronic display will display one of the designations: 5E (SE), E2 or 5C. Washing machines that are not equipped with a display indicate a breakdown by flashing the indicator.

Also, the machine may freeze with a full tank of water due to a defective pressure switch. The level sensor also needs to be replaced. If this is the case, the machine will display code 1E (IE), E7 or 1C (IC). Thus, many things can cause the washer to not drain. You need to be patient and check certain parts of the machine for damage.

Checking and replacing the pump

As already mentioned, most often the reason for water not draining from the tank lies in a damaged pump. Therefore, it makes sense to start with diagnosing the drain pump. What should I do to check the part? The sequence of steps will be as follows:

• Turn off the power to washing equipment,
• Disconnect the machine from the communication terminals,
• Unscrew the garbage filter, drain the remaining water from the system,
• Move the unit away from the wall,
• Lay the SMA on its side, first covering the floor with a blanket,
• Using a screwdriver, unscrew the bottom (if it is provided for by the design of the washing machine),
• Inspect the drainpipe for damage, feel it for the presence of small foreign objects inside,
• Loosen the pipe clamp, disconnect the tube from the pump,
• Unscrew the bolts securing the drain pump, disconnect the wires connected to it, remove the pump,
• Disconnect the pipe from the tank, rinse the cavity of the tube under running water,
• Remove the pump from the volute. To do this, you will have to unscrew all the mounting bolts,
• Inspect the drain pump impeller. There was a hair, or a piece of cloth wrapped around it. Clean the part.

The tester is switched to voltage measurement mode, its probes are placed against the pump contacts. If “1” or “0” is displayed on the multimeter screen, it means that the element is burnt out and needs to be replaced. You should buy a pump suitable for the SMA model and install it in place.
