How to put on a belt on a Samsung washing machine?

Washing machines of the Korean company Samsung are very popular among Russian users. • Water is collected in the drum, the motor is running, but the drum does not rotate,
• The engine periodically stops working and works intermittently,
• After starting the washing cycle, it freezes while the motor is running,
• The drum rotates randomly, and the motor does not work at this time,
• The washing machine makes strange sounds while working.

The belt definitely needs to be replaced if its surface has become “rough”, pellets have appeared on it or on the contacting elements, or delamination is observed. However, all this can only be detected with direct access to the part.

If you have to change the belt frequently, the machine still acts up, and all possible reasons for such behavior are excluded, professional diagnostics are required.

Preparing for renovation

To change the drive belt, you will have to partially dismantle the washing machine. Before this, it is necessary to carry out the preparatory work correctly.

 

 

If there is water and laundry in the drum, the laundry must be removed and the water drained.

Turn off the washing machine using the button, disconnect the unit from the power supply and from the water supply.

• Provide yourself with access to the rear panel of the CM.
• Prepare a set of screwdrivers for work.

If this is the first time you have encountered a belt coming off, and the part itself looks intact upon inspection, it can be tightened back without replacement.

How to get to the drive mechanism?

As mentioned above, the easiest way to access the belt is through the back panel of the washing machine. However, not all models have a removable panel. For example, Samsung washing machines do not provide users with this option, which significantly complicates the process of replacing the belt.

First, let's describe what the procedure will be for cars of other brands, where the rear panel is still removed:

remove the screws holding the back wall;

remove the cover itself, this will give you convenient access to parts and a good view of the work area.

And what should owners of machines that allow access to the belt only from above do at this stage? The order of actions will be as follows:

• Unscrew the screws holding the top panel,
• Carefully move the cover towards the back so that the cover comes out of the grooves,
• "drop" the lid.

Even if you can't get to the belt from behind, you still have to change it, there's no getting around it. "Crawling" to the drive mechanism from above is much less convenient, so be patient.

Installation of a new part

So, before you tighten the new drive belt, you need to remove the old one. It should be on the drum pulley. If it is not there, the part has probably completely torn and flown off, falling to the bottom.

 

If you are the owner of a Samsung machine and cannot remove the back wall of the unit, replacing the drive belt will look like this for you:

• Tilt the machine forward and position it so that the tank moves toward the front wall of the washing machine, thus expanding the space between the tank and the back wall,
• Pry the belt with a screwdriver, move it and remove it from the pulley. It is necessary to hold the belt and turn the pulley, this will help to release the part easier.

Now you need to put the new part on the motor shaft. If you have to work through the top of the CM, ask someone to help you grab the belt through the bottom. Without help, you can use a wire loop.

Once the part is on the engine, it is necessary to put it on the grooves of the pulley. You need to tighten the belt and hold it in this form, while simultaneously rotating the pulley clockwise. Rotate the pulley to make sure that the drive belt is positioned as it should be. Then, reverse the machine and run a test cycle to check.

Can we find a suitable part?

The best thing you can do is to buy a belt specifically for your washing machine, taking into account all the parameters, model number, etc. The new part will fit in the place of the old one like a glove, and this approach will significantly simplify your search for the right belt.

Experts speak well of poly V-belts. Their peculiarity is that their inner surface is not smooth, but embossed, consisting of several wedges.

When selecting a poly V-belt, it is extremely important to consider the distance between the wedges. For Samsung, the parameter 2.34 mm is suitable, which corresponds to poly V-belts of type J. This parameter is indicated on the part itself.

The number stamped next to the letter on the surface of the product indicates the number of wedges. The maximum number is 5. Belts with 3 wedges are suitable for narrow Samsung machines, and with 5 wedges for wider machines. Look for J3 or J5.
