How to change the cuff in a Candy washing machine?

How to change the cuff in a Candy washing machine?

Replacing the Candy washing machine hatch cuff may be required for various reasons. Sometimes it is natural wear and tear, in some cases the rubber is damaged due to the user's fault. For example, when unloading laundry carelessly or due to sharp objects getting into the washing machine drum.

A leaky cuff needs to be replaced as quickly as possible. The system is no longer hermetic, and this is fraught with serious leaks. Let's figure out how to dismantle the old seal and install a new one with your own hands.

We find a replacement for the damaged cuff

It is not difficult to change the cuff yourself - even a beginner can handle this task. It is important to buy a rubber band suitable for your washing machine. It is recommended to dismantle the old seal and take it with you to the store. Then the consultant will help you choose a spare part that is completely identical to the one removed.

If you cannot get the old cuff, tell the seller the model and serial number of the Candy washing machine. This information is in the machine manual, as well as on the nameplate (information sticker located above the hatch). It is advisable to take a photo of the entire factory mark and show it to the consultant.

When replacing the sealing cuff, you will need a minimum set of tools. This is a minus screwdriver and pliers. You also need to prepare soap and a sponge. Then you can start repairing the Candy automatic machine.

We take out the torn cuff

Let's figure out how to properly dismantle the damaged rubber. It is fixed in the body with two plastic rings. To remove the outer and inner clamps, you will have to deal with the latches. You should do the following:

  • Disconnect the washing machine from the power supply,
  • Open the hatch door as wide as possible,
  • Feel the outer clamp that secures the cuff (in candy machines it is plastic),
  • Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp latch (you need to catch the “spring” and pull the ring to the side),
  • Remove the outer clamp from the housing,
  • Remove the lower false panel of the machine,
  • Remove the detergent drawer from the housing,
  • Unscrew the screws securing the control panel,
  • Carefully, so as not to break the wires, place the dashboard on the car,
  • Remove the bolts holding the front wall of the case,
  • Set the front panel aside (be careful not to damage the UBL wiring),
  • Use a screwdriver to loosen the latch of the inner clamp and remove the plastic ring from the washing machine,
  • Remove the rubber cuff from the machine.

After dismantling the cuff, carefully inspect it. This way you can understand why the rubber has deteriorated and prevent such situations from happening again. Then you can proceed to installing a new gasket.

Installing a brand-new part

Some difficulties may arise at this stage. Putting on a new sealing rubber is more difficult than removing the old one. In order to "pull" the cuff onto the tank ledge around the hatch, you will have to apply force. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • Clean the seat from debris and dirt. This is done with a soapy sponge. After cleaning, do not wipe the recess dry - the foam will facilitate the installation of the new cuff,
  • Inspect the new gasket - find the mounting mark on it,
  • Connect the icon on the cuff with the mark on the body of the candy washing machine,
  • Place the seal into the recess,
  • Stretch the rubber cuff around the circumference of the loading opening,
  • Secure the inner retaining clamp in place,
  • Put back the front wall of the housing, the instrument panel, the powder receptacle and the lower false panel,
  • Pull the outer edge of the gasket over the drum ledge,
  • Reinstall the outer clamp (the ring spring should be facing down).

At this point, the repair of the "home assistant" can be considered complete. After replacing the cuff, be sure to run a test wash to check the system for leaks. Usually, the shortest cycle is selected, for example, "Rinse". If the machine does not leak, then the installation is done correctly.

Why can the cuff become unusable?

Although it is easy and inexpensive to replace the drum seal, it is still better not to allow it to be damaged. The gasket can last for 10 or 15 years if you use the washing machine carefully. We will tell you what can lead to premature failure of the seal.

  • Increased friction. Systematically exceeding the permissible load weight of laundry can damage the cuff. Items packed tightly in the drum will rub against the gasket with force. And buttons and rivets on the clothes can damage it.
  • Low-quality detergents. Aggressive household chemicals poured into the machine can cause deformation of the cuff. When buying detergents, choose products that do not contain components that can harm the rubber parts of the washing machine.
  • Sharp objects in the drum. Before loading things into the machine, it is important to check their pockets. Forgotten keys or hairpins in jeans can deform the cuff. Underwear should be washed in special bags, because a bra bone can easily pierce the pad.
  • Careless replacement. Sometimes the cuff is damaged during installation, for example, when handling a screwdriver carelessly. Therefore, you need to tighten the rubber seal very carefully.
  • Pets. After washing, it is recommended to leave the machine open for ventilation. And if a cat or dog shows interest in the washing machine, they can easily scratch or gnaw the rubber surface.
  • Incorrect loading/unloading of laundry. The condition of the cuff worsens when items are loaded and removed from the drum carelessly.
  • Mold. If basic operating rules are not followed (wipe the machine dry and air it out after washing), mold and mildew may appear on the internal elements. After some time, plaque and deposits will “eat away” the rubber seal from the inside.

If you notice that water has started leaking from under the door of your automatic machine, do not delay repairs. It is prohibited to operate a leaky washing machine. You can change the drum seal yourself, without seeking help from specialists.
