Gorenje washing machine not working

Gorenje washing machine not working

Why might a Gorenje automatic washing machine stop working? There are quite a few reasons. If you put them all together, you will get a list of one or two hundred items. To identify the problem, you will need to diagnose the washing machine.

What to do if the Gorenje washing machine does not work? How do malfunctions manifest themselves? What malfunctions are diagnosed on machines of the Slovenian brand most often than others?

Typical malfunctions and their manifestations

Why does an automatic washing machine break down and stop washing? The reason may be a violation of operating rules, and voltage drops in the electrical network, and natural wear of parts, and a manufacturing defect. You can limit the range of malfunctions if you know how the washing machine behaves with each of them. Therefore, the first thing to do is to evaluate the behavior of the "home assistant".

If the washing machine turns on, but you can't start any program? What could be the problem? Check:

  • Inlet valve,
  • Hatch locking device,
  • Engine,
  • Electronic module,

shut-off valve at the inlet to the washing machine.

First, check if the water supply tap is open. It is possible that the machine simply cannot fill up, so it does not start washing. The solution is to turn the shut-off valve to the desired position.

Other problems are more serious and often require repair. However, most of them can be dealt with independently, without the help of a specialist. Let's figure out how to act in a given situation.

The valve often suffers

One of the typical malfunctions of Gorenje washing machines is the failure of the inlet valve. The breakdown can manifest itself in different ways. At the first stages, the powder is not completely washed out of the tray, and the machine also takes longer than usual to fill. Then the cycle may not start at all - the washing machine stops working.

Before starting diagnostics, be sure to de-energize the automatic machine and turn off the water supply tap. After that, you need to go around the washing machine and unhook the inlet hose from the back of the body. Next, remove the top cover of the washing machine.

It is not advisable to repair the intake device. It is better to buy and install a similar part. The cost of the electromagnetic valve is low. Components are selected for a specific model of the Gorenje washing machine.

How is the replacement performed? Simply unhook the wiring and pipes from the faulty element, pull it out of the housing, and fix the new valve in place. Connect the contacts and hoses according to the previous diagram. After that, you can start a test wash.

The problem is in the lock

Another common malfunction due to which the Gorenje machine cannot start washing. To diagnose the UBL, you will need to open the door of the washing machine. Sometimes the hatch is locked in the closed position. And the first task that the user faces is to open the door.

If the washing machine hatch is locked in the closed position, it is necessary to:

  • De-energize the machine,
  • Remove the top panel of the case,
  • Tilt the washing machine back so that the tank moves away from the front wall of the body,
  • Put your hand through the resulting hole and reach the lock,
  • Feel the “tongue” of the blocker and move it to the side.

After this, the hatch will open. Then you can start replacing the blocker. Algorithm of actions:

  • Remove the outer clamp holding the hatch cuff (to do this, you need to loosen the fastening of the metal rim),
  • Tuck the sealing rubber inside the drum,
  • Remove the wiring from the blocker (it is better to take a photo of the connection diagram before doing this),
  • Unscrew the two bolts holding the UBL,
  • Remove the locking device from the washing machine housing.

The next step is diagnostics of the UBL. It is necessary to study the electrical circuit of the lock. If there is no such information in the instructions for the Gorenje washing machine, you will have to study the Internet.

What exactly do you need to understand? In the location of the UBL contacts. It is important to know where the phase is, where the neutral is, and where the common terminal is. Without understanding the electrical circuit, it will not be possible to perform high-quality diagnostics of the blocker.

Next, the UBL is tested with a multimeter. Algorithm of actions:

  • switch the device to resistance measurement mode,
  • Place one probe of the multimeter on the neutral contact of the device, and the second on the phase,
  • evaluate the readings on the tester screen - there should be a three-digit number,
  • Place the probes against the neutral and common contacts of the lock,
  • look at the readings the multimeter gives (if 0 or 1, the UBL is faulty).

Replacement is done in reverse order. First, buy a new hatch locking device for a specific Gorenje washing machine model. Then fix the lock in place, connect the wiring to it.

Then straighten the drum cuff back, put the clamp holding it. Then the test wash starts. If the door is locked, the machine will start working.

The problem lies in the electric motor

Another reason why the Gorenje washing machine cannot start washing is a broken motor. The motors of Gorenje washing machines are very reliable and break down extremely rarely. If there is a malfunction, then most likely it is just worn out electric brushes.

Wear of the engine brushes is inevitable. Over time, the graphite rods wear out and require replacement. This usually happens after 3-5 years of using the washing machine. The work is not difficult, you can do it yourself, without calling a specialist.

How does a washing machine behave when the motor breaks down? The main symptom is that the machine cannot spin the drum. You should also be alerted by extraneous noises at the beginning of the cycle and a burning smell.

How to get to the Gorenje washing machine engine:

  • Place the washing machine so that you have free access to the rear part of the body,
  • Remove the top cover of the case,
  • Remove the rear service panel of the washing machine by unscrewing all the screws that secure it,
  • Remove the drive belt,
  • Remove the bolts that secure the motor,
  • Disconnect all wires from the engine,
  • Remove the electric motor from the holders by pulling it towards you, then pull it out of the machine,
  • Inspect the motor brushes, if they are worn out, replace them.

If the brushes are intact, the motor winding may have broken. This happens extremely rarely on Gorenje washing machines, but you should not completely rule out the possibility of a malfunction. The motor is tested with a multimeter.
