Even the most modern washing equipment gets actively dirty during operation. This is affected not only by pieces of fabric, threads, hair, wool, and soap scum, but also by low-quality tap water, which is often extremely hard. To prevent debris and dirt from remaining on the internal components of the “home assistant,” it must be thoroughly cleaned from time to time. If you do not do this, then the contamination will directly affect first the quality of the wash, and then the condition of the machine itself. We will tell you how to properly drain the water from the washing machine filter so that you can thoroughly clean it later.
Before cleaning household appliances, you need to get rid of the waste liquid remaining in the system after the last operating cycle. You should always start with the pump volute - this is the name given to the place where you need to screw in the drainage filter. It is through this snail that all dirty water, pumped out of the tank using the SM pump, passes. Unfortunately, not all the used liquid goes down the drain - some remains in the cochlea. Therefore, in order not to flood the floors with water, the rubbish filter must be removed after draining the waste liquid.
It may seem difficult to do this, because the drainage element covers the snail, so it cannot be removed after the water has been drained into the sewer. However, you can first lay rags or unnecessary towels on the floor, and then begin to slowly drain the liquid from the system. Just gradually open the filter, drain a small part of the water, collect it with rags, and repeat these steps until the water runs out. Afterwards, all that remains is to remove the filter to begin further cleaning.
This makes it even easier to remove water. To do this, you need to take a flat baking sheet, place it under the front right leg of the washing machine, and start draining the water. In this case, all the liquid will not fall on the floor, but into the prepared container. Carefully pour the liquid into the pan, then carefully lift the machine to remove the container from underneath it, and then dispose of the water by pouring it into the sink or toilet.
It is also worth considering the situation in which your “home assistant” has a special hose for emergency drainage of liquid. If it is placed near the drain filter plug, it will be even easier for you to get rid of the water. Simply remove this sleeve, place a basin or bucket under it, open the plug and drain all the waste liquid. After completing the procedure, there will be little water left in the snail, which will need to be removed with a dry cloth, or simply drained into a small container.
Often, users are faced with a situation where they are unable to clean the rubbish filter. This can happen if the drainage element has not been removed for cleaning for a long time, or it has never been cleaned at all. Then the unit cannot be cleaned with a simple stream of tap water. What can help?
Active cleaning with a toothbrush. Since the rubbish filter is actively coated with caustic plaque, it may require cleaning with an old toothbrush pre-treated with laundry soap. You will have to rub the element vigorously to remove all dirt.
Soak. When all efforts do not bring results, you just need to soak the part in a solution of citric acid. To do this, you need to dilute citric acid in hot water, adding about fifty grams per one litter of water. Next, you need to place the drainage element in the resulting solution for at least an hour. Thoroughly rinse off any remaining solution and contaminants after the specified time has passed.
Use of household chemicals. Finally, if a solution of citric acid does not help, then you should purchase a special detergent specifically designed to combat plaque, rust, and other contaminants.
When cleaning, do not be afraid to use force, because the rubbish filter is resistant not only to friction, but also to household chemicals. The only thing that is not recommended is to immerse the part in boiling water and strong alkalis, because they can render the drainage element unusable.
Additionally, we will analyse a common situation in which users cannot remove waste fluid from the system simply because the drain filter cannot be removed even with the use of brute force. This can happen either due to blockage by a stuck foreign object, or due to a thick layer of scale covering the part. Regardless of the cause of the blockage, you should immediately remove the blockage to thoroughly clean the element later.
Coping with something like this is not easy, because in addition to free time, you will need strength and ingenuity. There are three ways to solve the problem, each of which is suitable for different incidents. Let us start with an easy one, which should help correct a minor problem, ending with a radical method, suitable only in exceptional cases.
First, you should try to get the rubbish filter using ordinary tools that every home should have. These can be simple pliers or pliers, which should be used to fix the protrusion of the part, and then try to pull it out. It is important not to overdo it so as not to accidentally break the plastic element.
If the first solution to the problem does not suit you, you can try knocking out the drainage element. A hammer or other tool is not needed, just tilt the “home assistant” to lean it on the wall, and then gently tap the surface with your fist near to the top panel of the SM. Sometimes these actions allow you to move a foreign object that could block the assembly. You should repeat what is described if your drain filter dangles loosely in its seat, but you still cannot remove it.
The last method is suitable only for experienced users because you will have to disassemble the washing machine to get to the drainage element through the pump. Lay the machine on its side, remove the bottom, dismantle the pump, and remove dirt from the debris filter through the hole that appears. Additionally, you can treat the unit with technical lubricant WD-40 to effectively get rid of scale.
Most often, the drainage unit of the washing machine is easy to deal with, especially if you do not forget about prevention and clean it at least once a quarter. The frequency of cleaning also depends on the frequency of use of the device, plus on the presence of pets in the house, due to which the drain filter will have to be cleaned monthly.
