The cuff in the washing machine was torn between the drum and the door

If the rubber band in the washing machine between the drum and the door is torn, you need to fix the problem as soon as possible. Otherwise, a leak will accompany each wash - water will pour out from under the hatch door. You can deal with such a problem with your own hands, without contacting a service center.

What to do if you find a hole in the cuff? Of course, the ideal option is to replace the gum immediately. If this is impossible, turn the seal over, so the spot is on top. Let's take a look at the nuances.

Just flip the rubber band.

When there is no money for a full-fledged repair with the replacement of components (buying a new cuff will cost 1000-3000, depending on the SMA model), you can turn the rubber band over. If you position the seal, so the defect is on top, the water will stop pouring out from under the hatch door. Let's figure out how to do it.

  • To turn the sealing gum over, you must:
  • Turn off the washing machine,
  • Open the drum door,
  • Feel for the outer collar holding the rubber band,
  • Having coped with the spring, pull the clamp out of the housing,
  • Remove the top cover of the washer (by unscrewing the two screws located at the back),
  • Find the inner clamp that fixes the rubber gasket (you can feel it by sticking your hand between the front wall of the machine and the tank),
  • Having coped with the latch, pull out the second clamp,
  • Dismantle the cuff of the drum,
  • Put the seal back, turning it upside down.

After such a coup, the drain holes will be on top, and water will linger in the gum. Therefore, it is necessary to make similar holes at the bottom of the seal so that the liquid flows into the tank and, from there, into the sewer.

First, the inner metal ring is placed, and then the outer one. After completing the repair, run a test wash and observe the operation of the washing machine. Water should stop leaking from under the door - since the seal defect will now be above the liquid level in the tank.

Turning the seal over is not possible on all washing machines. For example, such a trick will not work with most Bosch models. And, of course, this method can only be used as a temporary measure.

Replacement of a damaged part

Of course, the ideal option is to replace the damaged cuff immediately. There will be no problems with the purchase of components - there is sealing gum for sale for all modern washing machines. You can pick up a spare part on the website if you have some rare models.

In the process of replacing the sealing gum, you must have the following on hand:

  • Slotted screwdriver,
  • Pliers,
  • Damp cloth,
  • Soap.

Some craftsmen change the drum's sealing gum by removing the automatic machine's front and top panels. However, you can fix the washer more straightforwardly - without disassembling the case.

In this case, we will tell you what the algorithm of actions will be. First of all, you need to de-energize the automatic machine. Further:

  • Tip the spring of the outer clamp with a screwdriver and remove the metal rim,
  • Unhook the sealing gum from the front wall of the housing and fill it inside the drum,
  • Carefully pull out the damaged seal along with the inner clamp (the metal ring quietly changes shape, so it will not be challenging to get it through the hatch),
  • Clean the recess where the cuff lies with a damp cloth (you need to remove all the accumulated dirt in the grooves).

For some CMA models (the Bosch brand), a drain pipe is connected to the cuff to drain water. It needs to be disconnected from the gum. Otherwise, the tube will interfere with the recess of the seal.

Next, you can put the seal in place. The elastic is inserted so that the drain holes provided on it are from below. Also, the place for connecting the branch pipe must match its location.

After installing the cuff inside, return the distant collar to its place. Then you can pull the elastic on the front of the case. In the end, an external fixing ring is placed.

Putting the inner clamp in place alone will only be possible by disassembling the case. Therefore, you will have to invite the helpers of the household. One should hold the seal, and the second should snap the rim.

If you have difficulty pulling the elastic band over the case, wipe it with a soapy sponge. This will make it easier to install the seal. After the repair, run a test wash and watch the machine work.

You should follow the basic rules for operating the SMA to prevent a new cuff from failing quickly. Defects on the seal usually appear for the following reasons:

  • Incorrect loading/unloading of linen,
  • Foreign objects are forgotten in the pockets of clothing,
  • Damage to the gum with metal fittings of things,
  • Pinching of linen between the seal and the hatch door,
  • The use of aggressive detergents,
  • The mould that forms on an elastic band due to excessive moisture,
  • Pets that can gnaw through the seal.

Therefore, for the new cuff to last as long as possible, carefully unload things from the machine, make sure that there are no foreign objects in the pockets of your clothes, and choose only high-quality detergents. It is also essential to wipe the seal dry after each use of the washer and leave the hatch door ajar for ventilation.
